This is a concentrated photograph of the critical period of deciding the exact eyeglass or contact lens prescription. Through the unusual circular spectacles of the phoropter the patient looks through an instrument of various lenses of different strengths. Each time the optometrist changes the lenses, the patient looks at him/her with the typical question, which one or two are better. Such an interactive procedure is called refraction; it focuses the optical power necessary to correct refractive nystagmus such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. It enhances the blurry vision to clear vision, which is directly moulding the lenses which will be a significant component of the life of the patient. The photograph is a representation of the individualised, exact science of the core of optometric care.
