To colour Christmas pages, first use the highest quality colour pencils with soft cores, i.e. wax-based pencils when a strong colour is needed or oil-based pencils when a finer line is required or layers are needed. Start with light pressure to form base tones which are the classic reds and greens of Santa and trees, warm blues and purples of winter shadows, cool yellows of lights and stars. Add shades of deeper color slowly until curve or crest of crests are 3-dimensional. Blend transitions with the use of white or light gray pencils, and pass small highlights using white pencil or gel pen. The maintenance of strokes and going by the shapes of painter objects (such as tree branches or the folds of cloth) will result in an elegant, three-dimensional finish.
